Sue's February Update

It might not be very warm at the moment but we are getting ready for spring!

We have a good range of spring bulbs all at £1.75 per pot, inclkuding Crocus, Tulips and Daffodils, with the Tete-a-Tete just now coming into flower! Pot grown for planting now in the garden or tubs in or pots.

Providing the ground is not frozen it is a good time to plant your trees and shrubsm as well as hedging and fruit trees/bushes. Getting them in now gives them time to establish root growth before spring.

We have a good selection of Hellebores flowering- i.e Red Lady, Blue Lady, Yellow Lady and more all at £5.25 in a 3l pot, or three for £15.00. These plants are semi-evergreen and grow very well in shade or a sunny spot.

Our Alliums are also making an appearance with varieties including Miamii, Schubertii, Giganteum, Sphaephyllum, Globe Master and Mount Everest. These are a must for every garden and the bees love them, which means we love them too! Ours come as as well established plants in three liter pots and are 5.25 each or any 3 for £15.00. Alliums need a sunny spot in the garden with free draining soil and will they will come back every year.

For the veggie gardeners, we have our seed potatoes in stock as well as onion sets, shallots and garlic, rhubarb crowns and asparagus.

Although it is very cold and I am frozen, it is time to do as much tidying in the garden as possible to stay on top of things. As soon as the weather gets warmer everything will start to grow including the weeds. At present, when the ground isn’t frozen or wet through our students are trying to dig over their veg plots . Planting & seed sowing starts March so now is the time to think about what you want to grow and buy your seeds ready for planting in March/April.

Finally, we have our summer bulbs now in stock like lilies Dahlias, Crocosmia, Nerines and more, and of course a good range of flower and veg seeds.
